Mark your calendars for Wednesday, Jan. 25!

SCC will once again celebrate the "25th of the Month" in January as part of our 25th anniversary celebration!

What to wear:
Everyone is invited to wear jeans and college gear, maroon and gray spirit colors or a 25th anniversary T-shirt. Employees are encouraged to wear their 25th anniversary pin.

Where to go:
10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Head to the Plaza Bistro for free hot chocolate, '80s music and a visit by Scooter McCougar. Catering will serve up 25-cent tacos in the Plaza Bistro, so don't miss out!

Noon-1 p.m.
The college history video, "Opening the Doors: A College Takes its First Steps," will be shown in the SSB Auditorium.

SCC will celebrate the "25th of the Month" on Tuesday, Oct. 25. All are invited to wear jeans and their college gear, maroon and gray spirit colors or 25th anniversary t-shirt. Employees also are invited to wear their 25th anniversary pins. If you didn't receive a free 25th anniversary pin, you can pick one up at the Welcome Center in the Administration Building. Also on Tuesday, Scooter McCougar will be passing out Halloween candy on campus around lunch time.

Cards Game to air During Trivia Night

Late Breaking NEWS! The StL Cards game WILL air during Trivia Night on Friday! Is there any better way to spend a Friday night? Included: complimentary "beverages" provided by Krey Distributing Co., soda, water and popcorn, plus friendly competition, basket raffles, games and prizes.

Who will be SCC's trivia champion? We'll find out Friday night. Emcees - SCC's own Chris Breitmeyer and Laura Powell.

25th of the Month Event!

The 25th Anniversary Task Force welcomes students back to campus! SCC will continue its yearlong 25th anniversary celebration with a "25th of the Month" event on campus this week:

Watch for Scooter McCougar and task force members passing out popsicles and stickers during lunchtime on both Wednesday and Thursday. (Two days so students here on both days can enjoy!)

Head to the Plaza Bistro for the 25th Anniversary Special from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25: a single scoop of ice cream will be served in a cone for only 25 cents!

Watch for the 25th Anniversary trivia question on August 25 for a chance to win a free t-shirt!

Kick-Off Week Wrap-Up

SCC's 25th Anniversary Kick-Off Week is officially over, and a great time was had by all!

We finished off the week with the SCC Spirit Day and Tailgate Party on Thursday, April 7, and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" Movie on Friday, April 8.

The SCC Spirit Day and Tailgate Party was a great success! SCC staff handed out free peanuts from Texas Roadhouse, candy and 25th anniversary baseball stress balls to the crowd.

Scooter attempted unsuccessfully to hijack one of the Grounds Department vehicles, but not on Dan Porter's watch!

Scooter threw out free 25th anniversary t-shirts to the crowd!

And Chick-Fil-A gave out free chicken sandwiches!

The SCC Cougars baseball team was pretty excited about free Chick-Fil-A!

Then on Friday, SCC students, faculty, staff and community members gathered to watch "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" on the big screen at SCC. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was one of the top box office hits of 1986, the year SCC began!

Kick-Off Week is in Full Swing!

We are about halfway through the 25th Anniversary Kick-Off Week, and we've been having a blast!

On Monday we celebrated Scooter McCougar's birthday (again) with a campus wide kick-off party! And despite the rain and gloomy weather we still partied like it was 1986!

SCC students, faculty and staff enjoyed free cake and punch while listening to live '80s music from the Johny James band! There will also games, such as bags, ladder golf and pop-a-shot.

Yesterday was the 25th Anniversary All Campus Photo - where nearly 500 SCC faculty, students and staff had their individual photos taken for inclusion in a 25th Anniversary commemorative mosaic photo. While some people were getting their photos taken, the rest of the campus was on an egg hunt for 25 golden eggs!

And today was the official SCCavenger Hunt - good luck to all of our participants! The Gateway Kite Club was also on campus flying some of their awesome kites on this beautiful (and windy) day!

Also, don't miss the rest of this week's events, including tomorrow's SCC Spirit Day and Tailgate Party! Wear your best SCC gear or maroon and gray spirit colors and cheer on your SCC Cougars baseball team as they play St. Louis Community College-Meramec. The tailgate starts at 12:30 p.m. by the baseball field, and the game starts at 1 p.m. There will be free sandwiches from Chick-fil-A, peanuts from Texas Roadhouse and drinks (first come, first served)!

Then on Friday, join us for "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" Movie on the Lawn at 7 p.m. behind the Humanities Building and the Technology Building (rain location: Student Center). "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was one of the top box office hits of 1986, the year SCC began! Bring your blankets and lawn chairs, friends, family and co-workers for this free outdoor movie. Also, plan to dress in your best '80s gear for a costume contest. There will be a $25 gift card awarded to the best costume and the biggest hair. There will be free popcorn, but feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks. No alcohol allowed.

Scooter's Day

Whew, Scooter returned a little bit ago from his campus visits today, and he has had one great birthday! He's been to the Child Development Center, where the kids sang Happy Birthday, did a little dancing and also presented him with a birthday present. In an English as a Second Language classroom, students each said "hello" in his or her native language. Scooter also stopped by the Cafe Bookstore where he helped set up a special display of all the 25th anniversary items for sale, and he's been to several classrooms and offices and many other places around campus. We even heard he had a photo taken with SCC President John McGuire. Here are a few photos from the day. If you captured a good photo of Scooter, please post it on the SCC Facebook page!

Today is SCC's 25th anniversary!

Watch for SCC's mascot, Scooter McCougar, to be out on the prowl! If you see him, be sure to wish him a happy birthday!

Voters created the St. Charles Community College district on April 1, 1986, and the first classes were held in June of 1987. The 25th anniversary celebration is planned for April 2011-June 2012.

Check the website often during the coming year to get the latest on what is in the works for this important milestone. The 25th Anniversary Task Force will be planning activities throughout the year.

Coming this Monday, April 4, we will have a giant, campus-wide kick-off celebration and "Party Like Its 1986" out on the Campus Plaza from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. See you there!

Friday, April 1, is the official 25th anniversary of St. Charles Community College!

Celebrate with Scooter McCougar, SCC's mascot, and book him for your own celebration in your department, office or classroom. Play games, eat cake, have a potluck or plan an event of your choosing. Scooter is available in half hour slots from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Contact Peggy Schreiner to reserve your time slot with Scooter.

We met Tuesday to finalize the details for kick-off week. From volunteer sign-ups, choosing giveaway items, securing scavenger hunt locations, ordering food and decorations, to booking the band and planning the games, it seems we are in good shape for a successful kick-off week for SCC's 25th anniversary! Yeah! Our new web page for SCC’s 25th Anniversary is up! A task force was assembled a few months back and we are working to celebrate and commemorate SCC’s 25 years.

It’s hard for some of us to believe it has been 25 years since voters created the St. Charles Community College district in 1986. So much has happened… a campus was built and expanded, programs have been added and more and more students have chosen SCC to pursue their college education.

We’ve had so much fun sharing our favorite memories in our meetings.

Now it’s your turn. We want to hear your favorite memories. We want to know the SCC stories.
